Music Ministries

The music ministries of Sacred Heart Catholic Church offer a wide variety of programs and events open to anyone who is willing to make a joyful noise unto the Lord!  Below are just some of the many ways to participate in music within our parish.  Contact Justin Wham, our Director of Music, if you are interested in joining the fun!

Cantors lead the musical Liturgy of the Word and undergo 1-2 weeks of partner training before entering the cantor rotation. You may become a cantor without being a member of any of the choirs at Sacred Heart, although many of our cantors also participate in other areas. All materials and training are provided and we encourage anyone interested to schedule a meeting with the Director of Music.

Gallery Choir

This volunteer group welcomes full-time, part-time and visiting members of our parish community from all musical backgrounds. No previous experience is necessary to join. The choir sings for 10:00am Mass from September through Corpus Christi Sunday which is in late spring.  Additionally the choir sings for Confirmation, Ordinations, All Souls, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week and Christmas Eve.  Rehearsal is at 9:15am in the Charleston Catholic School chorus room.  For more information, contact Justin Wham at: 843-722-7018, cell: 843-813-6243, or email: [email protected]

Schola Cantorum

This small group of auditioned singers forms the vocal chamber ensemble for the Parish, historically known as the Chancel Choir. The Schola augments our music ministry by providing music for the 10am Liturgy once a month and assisting during other holy days, feasts and the Easter Vigil. Auditions are by request or at the invitation of the Director of Music. All Schola Singers participate in our Parish Gallery Choir.

Bel Canto Choir

Bel Canto Choir is open to children in grades 1 through 8 with practice every Sunday from 11:15am – 12:00pm in the Charleston Catholic School band room.  Before being admitted to Bel Canto, first and second graders must meet with the director to determine if they can match pitch and to see if they are ready for an organized rehearsal on a regular basis. Choristers in grades 3-8 need not audition. Bel Canto sings for 10:00am Mass approximately once a month and also at the 4:00pm Mass on Christmas Eve.
